I would of said white with a good splattering of various fluids! Hydraulic oil I think was a clear red and break fluid green. Dave will put me in place if I am wrong :-/

Would the inside of the aux air intakes also have been red? Avionics bays? Any idea on those..

Your doing a great job so far. nice free hand camo.

OM15 Hydraulic fluid used by the RAF was red .Same stuff used in brakes as they are part of the hydraulic system.Inside of aux air intake doors painted red.Engine intakes white inside.Equipment bays and other interior areas were green primer (except for the cockpit). This applies to the RAF Phantoms.I think the American ones were the same. But don't quote me on that!.Any leaks would appear as filthy black grime.

Sweet Danny like the paint job, airbrushing is some thing I need to experiment on before attempting what you have done.

Been a busy week with weddings but managed to get some work done on Sunday....the Phantom now has undercarriage and a coat of Kleer....Payload is half painted, although the sparrows and drop fuel tanks took up more time in filling and sanding than the the rest of the kit. Next stage. All those we hairy stick jobs that I like

Really good progress Danny. That free hand camouflage is brilliant. Mine sits as it was at my last update, covered in grey primer.

Thanks Ian, Joe, for your kind words......Im realy pleased with the free-hand paint job, but, now Ive seen some of the pics online with the heavy weathering on phantoms Im tempted to have a go...but reluctant to deface my paint job.....the human is a strange creature, gents

Some of you will remember me saying the Phantom had developed a rattle and today the cause has shown itself.. The pilots control panel shouldnt be wedged between the top of his seat and the inside of the canopy !! Problem, how do I get at it....solution, scalpel the canopy off. This is where the fun started. A good canopy fit with CA then 2 coats of matt paint then a coat of Klear is well stuck, so very difficult to get a knife under. It was obvious the paint and clear had to come off with minimum damage to the paintwork below the canopy fit. My first breakthrough came when I tried some airbrush cleaner on a Q-tip...30 seconds of gentle rubbing removed everything down to the clear canopy edge on the right side. 5 minutes later and all the canopy was clear, as if it had came out the wrapper !

Stage 2... Removing the canopy...I have to say this was far easier than I thought it would be and a gentle rub down with wet & dry left me clean and smooth cockpit sides to stick it back on to..

On a more positive note....The full missing canopy sprue for the Academy F4B arrived in the post from the far east today....Maybe the thought that I had another kit to build if need be helped with my attitude being quite laid back about the canopy removal.

                          Danny

Good recovery on the canopy. If you hadn't had another kit on the way I'm sure it would have split getting it off!.

Nice work on the canpoy Danny, at least you can rest easy knowing what that rattle was. Good tip with the airbrush cleaner.
